Guitar Beginners making the grade!

What is the result of you picking up the guitar? Taking the time to practice. It is an easy question. Do you want to play at a campfire? Do you want to play in a band? Do you want to record? Do you do it for your own enjoyment?
If you want to play by the camp fire, how long do you want to play! If you want to play for 15 minutes and songs average 5 Min’s a piece you will have to do 3 songs. COMPLETELY! You shoud never stop in the middle of a song, even if you flub it up. Do Ice skaters quit after they fall?
Playing in a band is going to require quite a bit more practice. If you are going to do 3 – 45min sets that’s about 27 to 30 songs YOU HAVE TO LEARN THEM ALL THE WAY THROUGH!
Recording or doing music for self enjoyment doesn’t require any sort of commitment. You get as much out as you put in. If you don’t practice enough it might show up in your recording. Or you can cut out the bad parts!
The important thing is to know WHAT YOU WANT.
Drop by our free ZIngingstrings Forum, have a look around. We may not have all the answers to your questions but I ask you does anybody? We will try to help you in your quest for music!

Guitar for beginners/Circle of fifths
Posted March 19, 2008 by YouTooCategories: guitar, guitar for beginners, guitar forum, guitar lessons, guitar playing, music
Been a while since I blogged and I have been busy practicing. The other evening I went into the video chat room on Zingingstrings forum and got a lesson on the circle of fifths from Jayjay. He explained to me about what the major key has in common with it’s relative minor, and that is that they both have the same number of sharps or flats and that goes for whatever note you play. He also went into a lot of detail about this and I found a lot of light bulbs flashing as we spoke, kind of like eureka.
So if you ever need to know what this circle of fifths is all about why not drop by Zingingstrings and our members will be more than willing and capable to give you an impromptu lesson.
Hope to see you soon

Hey, you don’t play an A minor pentatonic over an A chord progression do you? Well that’s like playing a D minor pentatonic over a D chord progression.
The heck you say!
Well, you heard me, so lets find out the relationship of the minors to the majors.
It’s simple the relationship is the amounts of sharps and flats in each key! The relative minor scale must have the same number of sharps of flats as the major key in order for it to sound correct! Where does the minor scale come in? Well you do play minor chords don’t you.
Confused?
No need to be. LEARN THE CIRCLE OF FIFTHS Start at the bottom of the posts!
Cheers,
Jay

Guitar for Beginners Anyone can learn to play and make Music
Posted March 12, 2008 by jjneyCategories: guitar, guitar for beginners, guitar forum, guitar lessons, guitar playing, music
Tags: beginners, guitar, guitar for beginners, learn music
Can anyone learn to play guitar?
Answer, yes but it is relevant upon the practice you put into it!
Let’s say you only pick up a guitar and play for a little while and put it back down!
Take the same person and do 30 mins of practice a day.
How about an hour?
What do I practice?
Well the first thing to learn on the guitar is the open chords! There are a lot of them. Open chords require no bar or index finger barring the strings! Become fluent with those chords!
Then on to your bar chords.
Then learn scales.
Do I have to follow this?
NO.
Some of the greatest musicians cannot read music but they do have a understanding of it!
So if you want to learn guitar with a group of musicians from around the world stop by the Zingingstrings Forum
You will be glad you did!
